Our Story
Why We Built Accountablo
It started with a Google Doc titled “Goals 2023” that looked suspiciously identical to “Goals 2022” and “Goals 2021.” We had tried everything — habit trackers, Pomodoro timers, accountability partners who were just as flaky as we were, and enough productivity YouTube videos to fill a semester.
Nothing worked. Not because the tools were bad, but because there were no real consequences for quitting. The app would send a sad notification, we would feel a twinge of guilt, and then we would scroll Twitter for another hour. The cycle repeated every single week.
Then one day, we made a bet. A real one. Five dollars that we would finish a side project by Friday. It was a tiny amount, but something shifted. The deadline felt real. The task felt urgent. And for the first time in months, we actually finished something.
That bet became a WhatsApp group. The WhatsApp group became a bot. The bot became Accountablo. And the mascot? A goat — because they eat everything, including your excuses.
